MIL-G-8968(ASG)
3.5.5.3 Mountings. - Where improper installation of an item could cause mal-
functioning to that item or the system in which it is installed, an unsymmetrical
mounting means shall be provided. This mounting shall be so designed that the item
can only be installed in its proper operating positions If an Unsymmetrical mounting
means is not practical, the items shall be so mounted that its proper operating posi-
tion can readily and visibly be determined by service maintenance personnel.
3.5.5.4 Covers and plate fasteners, - Covers and plates that must be removed for
frequent component adjustment or component or part removal shall be equipped with sub-
stantial quick-disconnect fasteners
3.5.5.5 Components. - All components having moving parts which are probable
sources of maintenance, such as valves, pumps, and fans, shall be located in such a
fashion that they can be removed for maintenance or replacement.
3.5.5.6 Fittings. - Wherever practicable, the plant shall be designed to include
AN and MS standard disconnect plugs, receptacles, and multiple line connectors conform-
ing to MIL-C-5015 in the electrical systems, and readily detachable and attachable-
type fittings in the lines to permit rapid component removal and replacement. Dis-
.
connect points shall be clearly indicated and identified,
3.5.5.7 Lubrication, - Wherever practicable, lubricated-for-life components or
components not requiring lubrication shall be used in the generating plant construc-
tion and design. Grease and oil seals shall be located and installed to provide maxi-
mum accessibility for inspection and replacement, and constructed to minimize damage
from excessive lubricant quantity or application pressures.
3.5.5.7.1 Parts subject to wear. - The generating plant shall be designed
and constructed to provide for proper lubrication of parts subject to wear, such
parts shall be constructed, located, and installed to be readily renewable. All
grease fittings and other lubrication points and lubricant drains shall be
readily accessible,
3.5.5.8 Protective covers. - All cover plates, gaskets, and fittings necessary
for protection of contained apparatus during operation, storage, and transport of the
generating plant shall be provided. Covers shall also be provided to protect air,
oil, fuel and product lines when such lines are opened because of disuse or from
component removal.
3.5.5.9 Wiring. - All electrical wiring shall be numerically coded except
trailer lighting wiring which shall be color coded in accordance with SAE standards.
Identifying numbers shall be printed not more than 3 inches apart directly on the wire
insulation. Wiring runs shall be located to enable the accessibility for maintenance
and checkout.
3.5.5.10 Equipment location. - All components having moving parts which are
probable sources of maintenance, shall be installed in a manner to permit readily
removal without removing the basic cold box insulation for maintenance or replacement.
