MIL-G-8968(ASG)
3.5.5.11 Interchangeability. - All parts having the same manufacturer's part
number' shall be directly and completely interchangeable with respect to installation
and performance, The generating-plant shall be designed to provide for the maximum
practicable interchangeability of hardware and fastening devices by using the minimum
number of types and sizes of bolts, screws, nuts, washers} and other common hardware.
3.5.5.12 Maintenance downtime. - The generating plant shall be designed and
constructed to petit maintenance by military maintenance personnel in not more than
the downtimes specified in 3.5.5.12.1 and 3.5.5.12.2. No more than two technicians
shall be required simultaneously for any one task.
3.5.5.12.1 Corrective maintenance downtime. - The mean corrective maintenance
downtime for all levels of maintenance below depot level shall be not more than 2
hours with a related maximummafi.tens.nce downtime of not more than 4 hours.
3.5.5.12.2 Maximum preventive maintenance downtime. - Maximum maintenance down-
time, excluding depot maintenance and major overhaul, shall not be more than 4 hours
at the 0.9 percentile point.
3.5.6 Operational life. - The overall equipment design shall be such as to
.
minimize loss of production time for servicing, impactions, maintenance, repairs,
and similar operations.
3.5.7 Safety. - The construction of this equipment shall provide for maximum
safety to personnel during operation installation, or interchange of assemblies and
component parts. All surfaces that will attain temperatures likely to be harmful to
personnel shall be rendered safe either by design location or by insulation. Surfaces
that are exposed and are at temperatures sufficient to condense ambient air shall be
insulated. The necessary silencing equipment shall be included to permit continuous
12-hour operation without detrimental effects to the health of an operator. The acous-
tic noise levels produced by the generating plant under any of the conditions specified
herein shall not-exceed values specified in 4.6.11.
generating plant, and the product transfer hoses shall be equipped with
safety features. Safety devices which are common in sound design practice for equipment
of this type shall be used.
3.5.7.1 Compartment lighting. - Where components which require servicing or fre-
quent maintenance have been installed in compartments, adequate lighting shall be
installed within the compartment to provide the visibility necessary for safety and
accurate maintenance.
3.5.7.2 Pressure vessels. - Unless otherwise specified herein, all pressure
vessels, lines, connections, and components of the generating plant that operate under
pressure shall be designed and fabricated in accordance with section-VIII of the ASME
