MIL-G-8968(ASG)
3.2.2 Component schematic. - The trailer van is shown on figure 1. The simpli-
fied flow diagram of the air source and the air liquefaction and separation assembly
shown on figure 2 is optional.
3.3 Selection of specifications and standards. - Specifications and standards
for necessary commodities and services not specified herein shall be selected in
accordance with MIL-STD-143.
.
3.4 Parts and materials. -
3.4.1 Standard parts. - In the selection of parts and materials, AN, MS, or MIL
standard parts and materials shall be given first consideration. Every practical
effort shall be made to use standard, readily available components, and to make the
design such that selection is not required when replacement of' components is necessary.
3.4.2 Commercial parts. - Commercial parts having suitable properties may be
used where there are no suitable standard parts available. In any case, commercial
utility parts such as screws, nuts, bolts, and cotter pinS may be used provided:
(a) They are interchangeable with corresponding AN or MS parts
without alteration
(b) The corresponding standard part numbers are referenced to the
extent practicable on the contractors drawings and parts lists.
3.4.3 Component selection. - Standard, heavy duty, commercially proven compo-
nents shall be used to the maximum practical extent.
3.4.3.2 Safety devices. - All safety devices shall be of corrosion-resistant
commnent materials not adversely affected by extended contact with oxygen, moist
.
air, water, or cleaning solvents such as trichlorethylene.
3.4.4 Metals. - Wherever practicable, lightweight metals shall be used in the
construction of the generating plant. All metallic surfaces of the plant that contact
high purity liquid oxygen or liquid nitrogen, or that are in a location where they
will normally be chilled to an extent causing condensation of moisture from the atmos-
.phere, shall be fabricated from corrosion-resistant materials that do not require paint
or other organic chemical. coatings for protection, All other metals shall be either
corrosion resistant or treated to resist corrosion resulting from enviromnental condi-
tions specified herein.
3.4.5 Dissimilar metals. - Unless protected against electrolytic corrosion, dis-
similar metals shall not be used in intimate contact with each other. Dissimilar
metals are defined in MS33586.
